"These dolls are really great works of art and marvelous examples of mastery. Her Majesty made up her mind that these wonderful dolls should become the common property. As the result, an exhibition of dolls is organizing in Legolend". (From the letter of Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark)
"Dolls by Olina Ventsel are works of art as well as paintings, music and architecture. For the first time in my life I knew that such thing as portrait dolls exists (Gete, Visotskiy, Andersen)". (Alexander Lebed. "Chest i Ridina" newspaper)

The world of dolls is so plain and open to everyone. You can just hold out your hand and feel it as close to you as it has been sinse the moment you began to understand yourself. At the same time, it is so enigmatic and queer. Its roots are in the depths of centuries, in the mysteries of rituals, where the doll lives at the edge of two worlds, the connection between the world of the dead and the world of spirits.

There is nothing more dual than a doll. It silently shows us only this aspect of itself that we are ready to accept. The doll has played different roles throughout history but it has alwais been an image of the man. In ancient times a man was compared with a doll not only physically but spiritually as well. He was like a doll managed by threads of passion by God. The man was under God's supervasion, feeling himself a puppet in God's hands. At the same time he was God while running a doll. Step by step the doll lost many of her magic qualities and became just a toy.

Unconsciously, or not, today we feel the mysterious roots of the doll that are well-hidden behind common and familiar dolls images.
